Simon Spillett: Sienna Red (Woodville) (£13.99)
The second CD from this prodigiously talented young tenorman finds him exploring further the musical legacy of his hero, the late Tubby Hayes. All the tunes have close associations with Hayes, and his former drummer, Spike Wells, is also on hand. But
for all that, Spillett is his own man, and his hard-charging drives through the likes of Mini Minor, Oleo and Pint of Bitter bear the stamp of originality while also evoking Hayes's headlong approach. Spillett really is a young talent to get excited about. Rush out and buy. AV

The Pizzarelli Boys: Sunday at Pete's (Challenge) (£12.99)

This is a session of exceptional charm, in which the veteran guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli is joined by sons John and Martin, along with drummer Tony Tedesco, for an affectionate meditation on some very old tunes. You'll search long and hard for a contemporary group playing the likes of In the Good Old Summertime and A Little World Called Home, but the Pizzarellis burnish them until they glow. John takes the lion's share of the solos and underlines once again what a wonderful player he is. But his dear old dad has his moments too. AV

Berlioz: Benvenuto Cellini LSO Live LSO623 (2CDs) (£12.99)

Colin Davis's new Berlioz cycle is shaping-up to be one of the most important chapters in the history of recorded music. His performance of the opera, Benvenuto Cellini, has a magnificent cast headed by Gregory Kunde's robust Cellini and a delectable Teresa from Laura Claycomb. Few have Davis's understanding of the score, though at times it must have been hair-raisingly fast for the superb chorus and orchestra of the London Symphony. "Live" recording from London's Barbican captures the thrill of the occasion. DD

Phillips: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 Dutton Epoch CDLX 7206 (£10.99)

Imagine Tchaikovsky's piano concertos refashioned by an English master of light music and you have a picture of the two concertos by Montague Phillips.
Composed on both sides of the Second World War from an endless supply of catchy tunes, these impressive performances from pianist David Owen Norris and the BBC Concert Orchestra bring the music to disc for the first time.
Hely-Hutchinson's The Young Idea comes as a jazzy and boisterous bonus track. How can such pleasing music have suffered such neglect? DD
