Zoe and Idris Rahman: Where Rivers Meet (Manushi Records) £13.99

An exploration of traditional Bengali music by pianist Zoe Rahman and her clarinettist brother, Idris. Songs their father loved are the starting point for a session in which jazz meets a variety of influences. Most are absorbing, not least because o
f Zoe's sparkling playing and the passion which Idris brings to his solos. Drummer Gene Caldarazzo ensures that the best tracks, including Sanctuary and Stream of Joy are anchored in jazz and there are good contributions from a supporting cast of Bengali instrumentalists and singers. AV

Freddie Hubbard: On the Real Side (Times Square) £13.99

Freddie Hubbard's return to duty after illness threatened to end his career is a matter for rejoicing, and this new session finds him on form. Hubbard solos with a joyousness and invention that gives his music an irresistible life-force. He's surrounded himself with a octet full of fine players and they run through a programme of Hubbard originals with brio. Tenorman Jimmy Greene and pianist Xavier Davis shine, but it's the old boy who steals the show with a turn on Up Jumped Spring that rivals anything he's done these past 40-odd years. AV

Tangos y Historias (Hanssler CD 98.508) (£13.99)

Had a bad day at the office? Then pour yourself a drink, sit back, relax and enjoy the silky-smooth tangos of Piazzolla.
The pairing of the German virtuoso violinist, Friedemann Eichorn, and guitarist, Thomas Muller-Pering, is perfect for the steamy mood that includes the popular tango, Milonga del Angel.
They complete the disc with perkily bright arrangements of the dances from Spain, Muller-Pering adding some discrete percussion effects. Don't miss it. DD

British Light Music Premieres (Dutton Epoch CDLX 7209) (£11.99)

A belated appearance of the delightful suite from Richard Addinsell's music for the famous 1940s film, Ring Round the Moon. But the big discovery is Paul Carr's Air for Strings, a sad lament that could take its place among the finest string pieces of the 21st century. Portraits of five very different children in Chagrin's Aquarelles, and woodwind concertos from Carr and Sutherland find the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and BBC Concert Orchestra on top form. I have heard better sound from Dutton, but this really is a super disc. DD
