Georgia Mancio, who appears at Wakefield Sports Club tonight, is halfway through an extensive tour supported by Jazz Services.

The tour marks the release of this beguiling singer's new album, Trapeze, which confirms the promise displayed by its acclaimed predecessor, Peaceful Place.

Versatility is the virtue which earns Mancio a special niche in jazz.

For a start she can sing in four languages, a gift reflecting an Anglo-Latin background that extends to Italian grandparents and a Uruguayan
great-grandmother.

Hence, a typical programme will find an evergreen standard preceding a Chilean folk song, a Cuban classic next to a show tune, an Italian piece sandwiched between a couple of blues numbers, and two or three sambas to raise the rhythmic temperature.

Mancio's cool skills deserve a wider audience, and her tour will undoubtedly win more admirers.

She receives exemplary support from Gareth Lockrane (flute), John
Pearce (piano), Dave Green (bass), Dave Ohm (drums) and Anselmo Netto (percussion).
