A CHEF told a jury yesterday he believed he cooked and chewed a piece of flesh from the body of a man he had killed because he thought he was preparing meat at work.
Anthony Morley, 36, said he could not remember cutting Damian Oldfield's throat in April this year, but felt betrayed after he woke to find him performing a sexual act on him.
He told the jury at Leeds Crown Court he thought Mr Oldfield might be g
oing to rape him if he had not stopped him.
The court has heard that after cutting his guest's throat and stabbing him many times, Morley carved a piece of flesh from his thigh, seasoned it with herbs, fried it in olive oil, cut it into slices and chewed a section.
Robert Smith QC defending Morley asked if he had rational explanation for what he had done in his kitchen.
Morley replied: "I can only say that at that point Damian's body had become something I dealt with at work, a piece of meat. That's the only thing I can think of. That was my daily task, preparing meat. I can't think of any rational explanation why I was doing that."
The first winner of Mr Gay UK in 1993, he said he felt confused about his sexuality for a long time and had told Mr Oldfield he wanted to take things slowly when he invited him for a meal.
On a previous occasion he had gone home with Mr Oldfield but there was no sex between them.
On the evening he made a meal at his home for Mr Oldfield they went to bed to watch a DVD but he made it clear he wanted to get to know him better before anything sexual happened.
He fell asleep and woke to find Mr Oldfield performing a sex act on him.
Morley said he shouted and got off the bed. He remembered being downstairs but had no memory of the attack other
than feeling a shocking pain when he cut his own finger with a knife.
Morley, 36, of Bexley Place, Harehills, Leeds, denies the murder of Mr Oldfield, 33, from Bramley, Leeds in April this year.
