FIVE thousand clay figures have filled Wakefield Cathedral for an unusual arts project.
The figures were made by children and pensioners across Wakefield as part of a Government-funded project to bring together young and old.
Lisa Spivey, project manager for Generation Xchange, said: "Who would have thought that this would work; yet thousands of people, young and old, got their hands dirty and found they had something to share."
The Dean of Wakefield, the Rev Jonathan Greener, said: "Our society tends to focus too much on the young; We believe every generation matters and this was a marvellous opportunity for the young and the old to come together, have fun, learn from each other and enjoy a shared experience."
The free exhibition opens today.
