RUSH hour traffic was brought to a standstill this morning after a fire closed two lanes of the M62 between Leeds and Huddersfield.
Hour-long delays were reported westbound between junctions J27 and J25 as police moved in. Traffic was tailing back for several miles.

The lorry fire broke out at 7.20pm near Huddersfield and caught hold in a trailer full of aerosol air fresheners and bleach. Police closed the westbound carriageway completely for safety reasons but later reopened one lane.

Officers also had to close two lanes of the eastbound carriageway, and severe tailbacks built up in both directions.

The Highways Agency was advising drivers to avoid the area.
