A DENTIST who created 800 ficticious patients in Scarborough as part of a fraud costing taxpayers more than £400,000 has been struck off.
The General Dental Council took the decision at a disciplinary hearing over David Heppleston, who made more than 3,800 false claims for payment from the NHS.

Since the fraud was uncovered, Heppleston, 47, has repaid more than £259,000 and the NHS is seeking to recover the remaining funds through civil action.

The GDC ruling means McKenzie is barred from working as a dentist. He was jailed for four years in 2006 after admitting 100 fraud charges, totalling £448,000.

He served a year behind bars after his sentence was reduced on appeal.
