Senior police officers were among mourners yesterday at the funeral of a colleague who died in a road crash.

Pc Ian Walker, 50, was riding to work on his Suzuki motorcycle on October 17 when he was involved in a collision with a car. A man has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Pc Walker, a father-of-two, was given a full police funeral at Leeds Parish Church yesterday where officers formed a guard of honour and mourners included West Yorkshire Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison.

Pc Walker, who lived in Leeds, had been a West Yorkshire Police officer for 28 years, and his family said his recent move to the road traffic department at Bradford North division was the pinnacle of his career. Mourners included his fiancee, Sarah, whom he was due to marry next May, his brother, parents and his two children.

Chief Supt Allan Doherty has described Pc Walker as a "popular and admired colleague".
