THE husband of Leeds-based singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae died from a suspected drug overdose, an inquest heard today.
Police found the body of Scottish-born Jason Rae, 31, a saxophonist with funk band the Haggis Horns, at a flat in the Hyde Park area of the city on Saturday afternoon.
At today's opening of the inquest into his death, a coroner heard how a patholo
gist had formed the preliminary conclusion Mr Rae died from a suspected drugs overdose.
But he said this was an interim report following a post-mortem examination and further tests were needed.
Detective Superintendent Steve Payne told the four-minute hearing at Leeds Coroner's Court: "There were no signs of any trauma or violence or any obvious significant natural disease signs."
Deputy assistant coroner Robert Chapman said the pathologist's report pointed to a "suspected drugs overdose and there's no evidence of any injuries or disease".
Mr Chapman said Mr Rae's body had been identified by his sister-in-law Amelia Atterton. He agreed for his body to be released to his family and issued a burial order.
A 32-year-old man on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs has been bailed pending further inquiries.
The coroner adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed so further investigations can take place.
