Lord Mandelson holds a piece of carbon fibre bodywork during a visit to the headquarters of the Williams Formula One team yesterday in Wantage, Oxfordshire.

Lord Mandelson appeared to defend his friendship with the son of Muammar Gaddafi during the visit by stressing the importance of "integrating" Libya. The Business Secretary has been criticised for allegedly attending a recent shooting party at Lord Rothschild's home in Buckinghamshire with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.

Lord Mandelson refused to confirm he was present, but said: "I, and other members of the British Government think it's very important that we integrate Libya, a former terrorist state, and not ostracise it.
