THE mother of murdered student Sophie Lancaster, who was kicked to death for being a Goth, last night launched an animated film re-enacting the attack in a plea for tolerance.

Twenty-three black balloons were released in Manchester city centre to mark what would have been Miss Lancaster's 23rd birthday before the film Sophie: A Dark Angel was shown.

Miss Lancaster died and her boyfriend Robert Maltby, from Todmorden, was seriously injured after they were attacked by youths in a park in Bacup, Lancashire, in August 2007.
