The earliest surviving episode of Crossroads has been discovered.
The 1965 episode from the ITV soap was found in an unmarked tin in an archive in West London.

As most episodes were taped over following broadcast, it was thought most of the footage from the decade was lost.

Archivists found the black-and-white episodes while looking for other episodes for a DVD on the Birmingham-based drama.

After finding two reels of film from 1973, they discovered a third can –episode 126 from 1965.

Crossroads was originally broadcast five nights a week. Critics mocked its low-cost production and poor storylines but it kept high audience ratings.
