TWO men are being investigated on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a crash where a woman died after a van left the road and hit a pub.
The crash was one of several serious collisions in South Yorkshire over the weekend and happened on Stubbin Road at Rawmarsh, near Rotherham.
South Yorkshire Police said a Ford Transit van travelling towards West Melton collided with the side of the
Marquis pub before bouncing back into the carriageway.
The impact resulted in the death of a 23 year old female passenger, though the exact cause of her death remains unclear.
Police arrested two men, a 23 year old from Barnsley and a 19 year old from Dinnington, Rotherham.
A force spokesman said they were suspected of causing death by dangerous driving and appealed for anyone who saw the crash, at 3.40am on Saturday, or had information about the manner in which the vehicle was being driven immediately before the incident, to contact them on 0114 2202970.
Four other women passengers from the van, who were all from Doncaster, suffered minor injuries. Firefighters had to release one of the casualties from the damaged vehicle. The road was closed for about five hours as police investigated.
Earlier on Saturday a man had to be cut out of a car which crashed on Warren Lane at Darton, Barnsley, in a crash which left him unconscious. And a total of five people were injured in a crash between two cars on Upper Wortley Road at Scholes, Rotherham, late on Friday evening.
