POLICE investigating the murder of a teenager stabbed to death after a 16th birthday party have dismissed suggestions his death was related to gang rivalry.
Yesterday the South Yorkshire force released a photograph of Dale Robertson, 18, from Primrose Drive in the Ecclesfield area of the city, who died in hospital after being stabbed several times on Saturday evening.

The incident happened on Rokeby Drive, Parson Cross, Sheffield, where residents spoke of a large gang gathering, some with knives and baseball bats.

Some blamed rivalry between youngsters affiliated to rival 'postcode gangs' who take their identity from the postcodes where they live.

However, Supt Peter Norman said Mr Robertson's death had "nothing to do with postcode gangs whatsoever".

He said the incident started with an argument at a birthday party and then escalated when more people arrived.

He said it had more to do with teenagers drinking large amounts of alcohol than with gang affiliation.

Emergency services were called to Rokeby Drive just after 11pm on Saturday.

Anyone with any information should call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 296 3959.
