A FATHER-of-three arrested in a row over a school craft knife has admitted the terrifying attempted rape of a student eleven years ago.
Police tested Steven Sellars' DNA after he returned the craft knife his son had mistakenly brought home from an art lesson.

Armed officers were called in after a school receptionist reported a man had approached her with a knife and the married father of three spent six hours in custody.

He was released without charge following the mix-up but officers then matched his DNA to evidence taken from the sex attack in 1996.

Sellars, who has a previous conviction for rape, admitted the charge and was remanded into custody to await sentence.

David Brooke, prosecuting, told the court police checks on Sellars' computer showed he had recently been searching the internet recently for "rape fantasy" and similar words.

Sellars will be sentenced at York Crown Court next month.
