Yorkshire GM crops get go-ahead

LEEDS University has been given the go-ahead to grow genetically modified potatoes in an open field on its experimental farm at Tadcaster.
The potatoes have had their genes tweaked by Professor Howard Atkinson to give them resistance to the potato parasite commonly known as "eel worm".
Some other EC countries already grow GM crops commercially but development of the GM business in this country has been held back by fear of vandalism, with activists targeting crops across the country.
