Royal equestrian champion Zara Phillips may have suffered a terrifying fall last week, but yesterday she was firmly back in the saddle at the Chatsworth International Horse trials.

The world eventing champion was the star attraction at the annual event, which is held on the Chatsworth Estate in the Peak District, where she put four of her horses through their paces.

Miss Phillips was not accompanied by her boyfriend, Otley-born rugby star Mike Tindall, who limped off the pitch injured on Saturday when his team, Gloucester, played Bath in the Guinness Premiership.

Huge crowds turned out in the warm sunshine which bathed most of the country yesterday to cheer on the Queen's granddaughter, who showed no sign of nerves as she rode her four mounts, Red Baron, Tsunami II, Secret Legacy and Tally Ho Sambucca, in the demanding cross country and showjumping events.

The 26-year-old, whose birthday is on Thursday, was told last week that she had been selected to ride for Great Britain in the Beijing Olympics. Next weekend she will be bridesmaid at the wedding of her brother Peter Phillips to Autumn Kelly.
