Albert Hall debut for musical youths

YOUNG musicians from across West Yorkshire will perform in the Royal Albert Hall today.

The ensemble of young musicians and singers from Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees will be performing a new piece of music called Strength in Numbers, specially composed for them for their keynote appearance at the Music for Youth Schools’ Prom.

They will be led by musician Joe Broughton who has been working with the ensemble for weeks putting the finishing touches to the composition which will be aired in public for the first time today.

Also performing will be young people who took part in the Rock School Project, organised by Bradford Council’s family learning team in partnership with Factory Street Studios, Bradford.

The young people attended a project in 2010 and have developed their musical skills and kept in touch with Factory Street Studios. They will be playing drums, guitar and singing in the soft rock section of Strength in Numbers.

These are part of a range of projects which make up the programme of the Bradford Education Music Hub, whose lead partner is Bradford Council’s music and arts service.
