£1.5m move into city centre
INDEPENDENT chartered accountants Naylor Wintersgill has pledged its future to Bradford by moving to new premises in the city. Naylor Wintersgill has invested about £1.5m in purchasing and refitting Carlton House, in Grammar School Street.
The company has said its move from headquarters in Manor Row is the result of continued business growth and increased staffing levels.
The move, which will be recognised at an official opening ceremony planned for October when the refit is set to be completed, is seen as key to helping Naylor Wintersgill, which employs 40 staff, expand further.
Alan Wintersgill, senior partner at the firm, said: "We are delighted to have purchased Carlton House which has played a significant role in Bradford's history over the years.
"The move is a clear indication of our long-term commitment to the city and our on-going desire to continue our programme of phased expansion."
The 9,000sq-ft, two-storey Carlton House, which will provide more space for Naylor Wintersgill, was built in 1872 by Andrews & Pepper as the chapel for Bradford Grammar School.
The school relocated to its present site early in the 20th century and the building was subsequently occupied by Carlton Boys' Grammar School.
The building was then transformed from a chapel into a gymnasium.
In 1977, Carlton Grammar School merged with Bolling Grammar School and vacated Carlton House.
The building was the subject of major refurbishment and modernisation in the early 1990s and was then acquired by a charitable pension fund and let to a national accountancy firm.
Established in 1917 and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Naylor Wintersgill is now the largest independent firm of chartered accountants in the centre of Bradford.
