'All will be revealed' promise for third series of Ashes to Ashes
THE next series of Ashes to Ashes will finally "reveal all" about who Gene Hunt really is and what his alternative world means.
The BBC1 show, written and created by Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah, who were also behind Life on Mars, finished its second series last night.
A third and final series of Ashes to Ashes, in which a female detective inspector named Alex Drake (Keeley Hawes) is transported back to the 1980s after being shot, has been commissioned .
Those behind the show promised that the climax of the third series will reveal all about politically incorrect cop Hunt played by Philip Glenister in a "stunning finale".
Pharoah said: "We have thoroughly enjoyed following Alex Drake on her journey in the '80s and seeing her fiery relationship with Gene Hunt develop.
"We are also as excited as the viewers to see how her journey ends and we promise the third series will be packed full of intriguing twists and turns."
Filming on series three will begin in the autumn and Ashes to Ashes will return to BBC1 in 2010.
Executive producer Simon Crawford Collins added: "Will Alex make it back home? Why is she living in this parallel '80s world? What will become of bullish Gene Hunt and will we ever discover what actually happened to Sam Tyler (played by John Simm in Life on Mars)? Viewers will not be left disappointed because the series promises to finish with a bang!"
Channel 4 is to become the first UK broadcaster to make its back catalogue of programmes available to watch free
on its website.
Shows such as Father Ted, Drop the Dead Donkey and Shameless will be on the 4oD section of the channel4.com site from July.
