All-female ensemble in tune to launch charity’s campaign
LEADING women musicians from across the region came together and made some noise for an Oxfam fundraising campaign in Huddersfield yesterday.
Shoppers and commuters were treated to a half-hour brass band show in St George’s Square as the charity launched its Get Together initiative to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.
Oxfam are encouraging women- and men - to organise events at home, work or in the community to raise money to support women who are living in poverty across the world.
It could be a Zumbathon, a coffee morning, a cake sale, your own edition of Come Dine With Me, or - of course - a brass band concert.
Brass musician Tabby Clegg, who is urging bands across the UK to back the campaign, said: “Music is a very powerful way of communicating and changing the world. It brings people together in a magical way.
“There are so many women around the world trying to support their families in the face of awful poverty, and it’s great to know that we can do something to make their lives a bit easier.
“The Get Together campaign is a brilliant excuse to meet up and make music together to benefit other women around the world.”
