Apprentice star gives positive message

BUSINESS guru and star of BBC1's The Apprentice, Ruth Badger, arrived in Sheffield yesterday and prescribed a course of "commercialism" for those who want to thrive throughout the economic downturn.

Miss Badger, 30, was invited to speak at an event organised by BIG – Make It Your Business – which uses Westminster and European cash to encourage people to set up on their own.

The theme of the day-long fair was franchising, although the Wolverhampton-born businesswoman, who now runs her own consultancy firm, said any business could grow with the right input.

She added: "I think we need to be delivering a positive message about business at the moment.

"There are a lot of people coming out of a career because of what is happening and they are looking for something new, so taking on a franchise may be a good option for them.

"But business people have got to be commercial and apply that commercialism. They need to go out there and say, what do want, when do you want it and how much are you going to pay me?
