Armed raider threatened betting shop worker

CASH was stolen from a York bookmakers after a member of staff was threatened with what appeared to be a handgun.

The incident happened in the Coral bookmakers in Beckfield Lane, York, at about 12.15pm today when a man approached the counter of the otherwise empty premises.

North Yorkshire Police say he threatened and demanded cash from a male member of staff before making off in the direction of Ostman Road and Viking Road.

Detectives say the member of staff was uninjured, but was deeply shocked by the incident and required treatment from paramedics.

Firearms Support Unit officers attended the incident. Police investigations are continuing to trace the suspect.

The man was described as white, "skinny" build and about 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing a grey-coloured hoodie top covering his face and black tracksuit bottoms.
