Army cadet chosen for Royal award
AN ARMY cadet has been selected for the service's prestigious Duke of Westminster's award in recognition of her performance as a company sergeant major in Hull.
Nikki Morgan, 18, has been a cadet for five years and is a member of the Band detachment in the city.
She has been awarded a trophy and a 500 prize which she intends to use to help fund her university studies.
She intends to read Medicine at Keele University after taking six A- levels at Hymers College in Hull this summer.
Before that, she will accompany other winners on a trip to South Africa where she will spend three weeks on an environmental awareness course in Kwa Zulu Natal and a cultural project, teaching orphaned children.
In addition, she will have the chance to explore Zulu War battlefields.
Army Cadet Force commandant, Col David Fuller, said: "With the application Nikki has shown, together with the training she has received from her dedicated and enthusiastic instructors in Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force, it proves that the youngsters of today can and will achieve great heights, given the opportunity."
