Artist is streets ahead
A Sheffield teacher has been named Amateur Artist of The Year after painting a picture of a New York street he photographed during a school trip.
Craig Longmuir, head of art at Silverdale School, has also won the Best Townscape prize from the Society Of All Artists, an organisation with more than 35,000 members in 62 countries.
His picture, Rain On The Sidewalk, was inspired by a digital photograph he took and digitally manipulated. Mr Longmuir, who once worked as a scenic painter at the Crucible Theatre, said: "My paintings are about mark-making, decision-making and the balance of tension between the image and the materials."
