Artist bids to help sick children by handing over painting for auction
AN ARTIST who is celebrating a 10-year collaboration with a Sheffield gallery and framing company has donated one of her pictures to help sick children in South Yorkshire.
Rotherham painter Margaret Clarkson, who used to be an art teacher in both Rotherham and Doncaster, has given the work, Squeaky Clean, to be auctioned for Sheffield Children's Hospital.
She has built up a following of collectors and is well known in the area for her nostalgic scenes based on life in South Yorkshire in the 1940s and 1950s.
Mrs Clarkson said: "The last 10 years have been great and it is nice to have a chance to celebrate the anniversary.
"I am very proud of this picture and delighted that any money raised will go to the Children's Hospital. It is going to be exciting once the bidding starts and I hope we can raise a good amount."
The auction is being run by Fast Frame, in Cambridge Street, Sheffield, which has kept a large stock of her prints, which have become popular with buyers over the last decade.
Nick Spears, who owns the shop with his wife Moira, said: "We have been working with Margaret for 10 years and we are really looking forward to the celebrations.
"We decided we wanted to do something special and Margaret came to us with this lovely large painting. We thought that a charity auction of the picture would be perfect."
A bid can be placed by visiting the Fast Frame or by calling the shop on 0114 279 6363.
