Barnsley's got Talent as rising star snapped up
FOOTBALL club bosses in Barnsley have unveiled a new youth player – and hope that he will live up to his name on the pitch.
Young Talent Ndlovu was snapped up by scouts after just one training session, and the Championship club said he was set to be a rising star.
The 11-year-old's father, Nqobile, said he had heard the name Talent when he was younger and vowed to use it for his son.
The young footballer and his family had only been in England for three months after moving from their native Zimbabwe when he was spotted at a football club run by his school.
Mr Ndlovu, of Bradford, West Yorks, said: "It's strange, he was given this name and now he seems to be full of talent. The name means the same in our language as it does in English, being gifted.
"But I always tell him that talent doesn't come easily and you have to keep practising and training – I am always encouraging him.
"Who knows how far he will get but he must keep working – he trains twice a week at the moment with games on Saturday and Sunday."
Talent has already played against Manchester United, Leeds United and Huddersfield during his short time with Barnsley and would love to play for Manchester United.
Mr Ndlovu, a 42-year-old nurse, added: "Talent would be playing with all the kids in the street in our native town, using plastic balls, and then one of my friends told me 'that boy is playing really good football' so I went out a bought him a proper football to use."
Talent's coach at Barkerend Primary School, Mark Senior, said: "Even at the age of ten, Talent was showing unbelievable raw skill, learned on the streets in his native
Zimbabwe.
"The tricks and skill and balance of Talent shows that you don't need great equipment, facilities and coaching to become highly skilled.
"Talent practised his skills in the streets and in areas where kids simply don't play in England anymore."
