Baseball bat attacker sentenced

A TEENAGER has been sentenced to four years in a young offender institution for hitting his sister's boyfriend with a baseball bat, fracturing his skull.

Leeds Crown Court heard Alexander Barrow lost his temper after asking the victim Jamie Alcock to leave the Barrow family home without success.

Judge Kerry Macgill said after the initial confrontation with Mr Alcock in a bedroom, Barrow went downstairs, got the baseball bat and after smashing some shelves went to where Mr Alcock was sitting naked on the side of the bed and hit him on the head.

He told police Mr Alcock was laughing at him and he flipped.

Barrow, 18, of Crescent Avenue, Rothwell, Leeds, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. In addition to custody he was given an extended four years on licence. The judge told him he could have been facing a murder charge.

The incident happened while he was on bail for threatening a man with a knife and slashing tyres outside his home, for which he is already serving 12 months.

Richard Reed for Barrow said he was doing well in custody. "He understands and acknowledges he has a temper problem and is willing to work to address that."
