The body of a man was found in woodland in Leeds hours after he went missing from home.

Police issued an appeal for information on the whereabouts of 28-year-old Gavin Dooley at about 1.45pm on New Year’s Day. He had gone missing from his home in Glasshouse View, Middleton, at about 4am that day and officers said they were “very concerned” for his welfare.

Mr Dooley’s body was discovered by a member of the public in woods off Sharp Lane, Middleton, at about 2.15pm on New Year’s Day.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said that the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The coroner’s office has been informed, although yesterday (Jan 2) no date had been set for the opening of an inquest.
