Business leaders support blueprint
BUSINESS leaders have given their backing to a planning strategy aimed at preserving the heritage and character of one of Britain’s most historic cities.
The core strategy of the Local Development Framework, which will provide a planning blueprint for the future of York, was submitted to Local Government Minister Eric Pickles earlier this month for approval.
The document provides clear guidance on developing land for employment and business as well as future housing requirements, while also looking to set out a masterplan for providing effective transport links.
The Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce had previously voiced concerns that the city’s heritage was being preserved at the expense of enterprise.
The Yorkshire Post revealed in August last year that the Chamber had warned the city faces “substantial challenges” in the aftermath of the recession.
However, non-executive director Shaun Watts said the LDF’s core strategy provided developers with the “confidence and security” to develop in and invest in the city.
