Caring eczema nurse wins top award

Andrew Robinson A NURSE who helped put a smile back on a little boy's face has won a top award.

Mum Sarah Atridge had tried various treatments for her baby James's eczema but none seemed to work until paediatric nurse Hayley Taylor came to help.

Sarah, from Brockholes in Huddersfield, nominated Hayley for the Eczema Society's Healthcare Professional of the Year Award for her care of James.

Now two, James is almost clear of eczema.

Sarah said: "It's not simply a job to Hayley. She was genuinely upset my son was so miserable and told me that together we would make him happier and we did.

"Hayley was a constant source of support, always smiling and compassionate towards James. She listened and understood our situation and when at times I felt like giving up the treatment Hayley encouraged me to stick with it."

The National Eczema Society Awards recognise those people who go that extra mile to help and support children with eczema and this year the society received award nominations from across the

country.

National Eczema Society chief executive Margaret Cox said: "Hayley's warmth and caring approach towards managing her patients' eczema really stood out."

Hayley, who works for the community nursing team in Huddersfield, said: "I was surprised when I heard that I had won.

"The most important thing to me is that James is a much happier

toddler now."
