Cash boost for community projects

A POLICE charity has awarded almost £13,000 to eight community projects.

The High Sheriffs’ and Humberside Police Tribune Trust will also give £5,000 towards the Humber Night Challenge Event on March 3, when youngsters get to test their navigation skills on a night- time 12-mile trek.

The largest grant of £3,000 will go to Humberside Police Lifestyle Team towards the 2012 Lifestyle Rock Challenge competition. Last year over 3,500 young people took part and the trustees consider this “the most effective drug and alcohol education programme in the UK”.

Another £2,000 has been awarded to Child Dynamix, which runs the ‘Hut’ Youth Centre on Preston Road.

The smallest grant – £250 – will go to fund a mock trial competition at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, March 10. Director Geoff Ogden said: “Once again the diverse nature of these awards demonstrate the valuable work by so many groups and organisations in the Humberside area to help vulnerable people and reduce crime. They are so often forgotten when negative events locally and nationally make the news particularly about young people.”
