CCTV protection for 'hidden gem' welcomed
THIS Tudor farmhouse in a Sheffield park is set to be protected from vandalism with a new CCTV system.
In recent months Bishops House Museum, in Meersbrook Park, has been the victim of various incidents of criminal damage.
As a result, a new Friends of Bishops House group is also being established, which will work with Museums Sheffield to access funding for further security measures if they are required in the future.
Coun Sylvia Dunkley, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Sheffield Council, said: "Like local people, we believe it's vital that we protect Bishops House so that future generations can learn about Sheffield's heritage and history.
"I'm pleased that, through working with local residents, we have been able to find a way forward to improve security on the site.
"We are committed to protect this hidden gem so that it can be secured and preserved."
Dave Holt, secretary of Norton Lees Residents' Association, said: "I'm delighted that, through working with the council, we have been able to come up with a long-term plan to protect Bishops House.
"This will be welcome news to both local residents and anyone who is interested in protecting Sheffield's heritage."
