Cream of Cornish art on display
Stephanie Pollard, co-owner of the Clare White Gallery in Barnsley, shows off two works of art by the Cornish artist the venue is named after.
The new art gallery is set to specialise solely in Cornish art and craftwork including original paintings, prints, ceramics, textiles and hand-made jewellery.
It opens at the Elsecar Heritage Centre on Friday.
The gallery was a life-long ambition for proprietor Andrew Pollard, who bought his first painting in Cornwall as a teenager – a Barbados street scene painted by the late St Ives watercolourist White.
Since then, he has collected her work and the gallery will now become the main national outlet for her remaining collection.
Mr Pollard, of Wath-upon-Dearne, previously curator at Clare White exhibitions in St Ives, Harrogate and Rotherham, said: "Lots of people living up here love to take their holidays in Cornwall.
"We want to offer them a chance to see a range of high-quality Cornish art without having a 700-mile round trip."
Visitors to the opening weekend will get a free clotted cream scone. For more details email stephpollard@tiscali.co.uk or call 01709 871038.
