Dan Brown novel at centre of debate
ACADEMICS who have set up a dedicated centre for research into freemasonry at a Yorkshire university are hosting a discu- ssion on novelist Dan Brown's portrayal of the brotherhood.
The Centre for Freemasonry and Fraternalism at Sheffield University has organised the event after the publication of The Lost Symbol, which is the latest book by the Da Vinci Code author.
Dr Anreas Onnerfors, who is the director of the centre, which was set up almost 10 years ago, said the panel discussion, which will take place on October 15, would examine Brown's portrayal of Freemasonry.
He added: "The traditional perception is that the Freemasons is a club for the promotion of the business interests of men who come from the upper levels of society.
"But in his book, Dan Brown, who has a great understanding of these esoteric traditions, presents quite a fair and accurate description of some aspects of Freemasonry."
