Eight year-old girl finds porn as she plays with computer at Toys R Us

A YOUNG family were horrified to discover pornography on a computer displayed in a toy shop.

Eight year-old Harriet Aisbett stumbled on images of adults having sex when she tried out a laptop at the Wakefield branch of Toys R Us.

Her mum Tracey had to cover the girl's eyes when several of the pornographic images popped up on screen as Harriet tapped the keyboard.

Ms Aisbett, 40, said staff at the shop merely shrugged off the incident.

She said: "I am not a prude but I could not believe what I saw right in front of me in a children's toy shop.

"She just touched the buttons and the screen sprang to life. There was no mistaking what I saw."

Ms Aisbett went to inform a member of staff, who said it wasn't the first time it had happened.

"They simply shrugged and said 'oh they've been messing about again'," she said. "I was so shocked I just walked away."

Toys R Us wrote to apologise and gave her a 25 pound voucher which Mrs Aisbett is donating to her local hospice.

A spokesman for Toys R Us said: "Clearly we take this issue very seriously and we are carrying out an investigation.

"We have sold thousands of computers over the past 14 years and incidents of this nature are extremely rare.

"All our computers and laptops have protective software installed, which is designed to prevent inappropriate material being accessed.

"This software is tested on a weekly basis. Unfortunately there are ways it can be overridden and in this case it looks like someone has done so and then accessed an inappropriate site.

"We have CCTV cameras in all stores and are currently investigating this incident. We would like to apologise for any distress experienced."
