Every penny counts: Bid now for Yorkshire's most exclusive Christmas gifts

YORKSHIRE Post rreaders from today have the chance to start bidding for a whole host of unique money-can't-normally-buy prizes, as the Yorkshire Post's Christmas Charity Auction is finally launched.

With opening bids starting at as little as 9.99 you could snap up an excellent early christmas present for you or a loved one.

This week prizes in the auction, sponsored by accountants Grant Thornton, include a tour of Prince Charles's Highgrove gardens, tickets and backstage passes to a Dame Kiri Te Kanawa concert, and a recording session at professional London music studio, The Suite. Full details

Every penny raised from the generous bids the auction attracts will go towards supporting the Prince's Trust who are the leading charity for helping disadvantaged young people who have been in care, struggled in school, in trouble with the law or been long-term unemployed.

Each week we will reveal a different set of prizes you can bid on, with the more money raised the more help the Prince's Trust can give to helping vulnerable youngsters across Yorkshire.

Star prize this week, with bids starting at 99.99, is a tour of the Gardens of Highgrove, the estate of Prince Charles where Prince's William and Harry spent their early years growing up.

Steeped in history, this prize is for four people, who will also receive a luxury hamper and Prince Charles's book, 'The Elements of Organic Gardening'.

After the tour, champagne and canopes will be served to guests to round off a great day.

Maybe you will be more interested in a signed platinum disc of Rod Stewart's 'Stardust – The Greatest American Songbook Volume 3.' The Rock legend's first LP to debut at number one in the US.

Closer to home, the Bradford International Film Festival will give the VIP treatment to two lucky readers at the gala opening on March 18 2010.

The winners will be invited to a black tie pre and post screening drinks reception and have a chance to mingle with the stars and the guest of honour, previously Michael Palin in 2008 and Virginia McKenna in 2009.

After the gala the lucky pair will be treated to an overnight stay at the Great Victoria Hotel in Bradford.

Colin Philpott Director of the National Media Museum, who are hosting the event, said: "The Opening Night of the Bradford International Film Festival is one of the highlights of the Yorkshire calendar and we are delighted to be able to offer two readers of the Yorkshire Post the opportunity to be part of it."

Sue France, head of Marketing for the Tomahawk Group, who own the Great Victoria, added: "The winner of this prize would enjoy a fabulous evening at the film festival and a night's stay in a luxury suite fit for a film star."

This week one bidder can win a made-to-measure suit from Yorkshire's Hemingway Tailors in Wakefield.

Ladies need not worry though. In a few weeks time they will get the chance to bid for a tailor-made woman's suit.

Toby Luper, owner of Hemingway's said: "The winner will not only receive a fine crafted suit, but also be party to the first class service that we offer all of our clients. The only negative could be that they will find it hard to wear an off the beg suit again."

Three-times British Aerobatic Champion, Tom Cassells, has donated a prize through his company, Reed Broadall, of an aerobatic display anywhere across Yorkshire for the winning bidder and their friends.

He said: "It will be the perfect treat for a birthday party or wedding and I think whoever wins will really enjoy the experience."

Jonathan Riley, managing partner of Grant Thornton's Leeds office, said: "After months of preparation and support from our generous donors, we are delighted that the first week is underway. We're hoping people dig deep and bid for some of this week's amazing prizes because after next Saturday they'll be gone. Personally I'm tempted by a recording session in London, though I know my wife would appreciate a place on a Betty's cookery school course."

Editor of the Yorkshire Post, Peter Charlton, said: "I'm amazed at the generosity of the people who have provided the 100 prizes for our Christmas appeal and I hope that the auction provides a novel and interesting way for our readers to get involved with such a worthwhile cause. We believe its a great way to provide someone with a unique Christmas present."
