Ex-chef hoping Britain will go nuts for a taste of Brazil
Kathryn Moore A FORMER chef is hoping to bring a taste of Brazil to the region following the launch of her snack company.
Bradford-based Brazilian Flavours' first offering – an authentic cheese bread – is already on the market and founder Isobel Gordon hopes to follow suit with further additions to the range.
The gluten and wheat free ready-to-bake 'cheese bread' Po de Queijo is a traditional Brazilian savoury snack made with starches and cheese.
The company hopes to tap into the growing market for gluten-free products.
New ranges being developed include, Po de Queijo garlic, Po de Queijo herbs and gluten-free savoury biscuits.
The company also specialises in producing traditional Brazilian wedding favours.
Ms Gordon, said: "The gluten-free market could be a big for us, we have also had people talking about fillings and creating canaps with our Po de Queijos. It's wonderful to see customers looking at the product and seeing how they could use it. It's great that it stimulates their imagination."
Ms Gordon moved to the UK from Brazil 15 years ago and is a member of the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber (RFGYH) – custodians of the Deliciouslyorkshire brand.
Brazilian Flavours was officially launched in March 2006 at Food and Drink Expo, the main event in the UK's food and drink exhibitions calendar.
The products are stocked in farmshops across Yorkshire, including Harrogate's urban farmshop Weeton's, and the company is currently in negotiation with a number of national food service companies.
The company is also looking into export opportunities and has received enquires from France and Russia.
"I love Yorkshire. I love the scenery, the pace of life and especially the people and I'm thrilled to be flying the flag for my adopted county by being part of Deliciouslyorkshire. I am extremely grateful to them for helping me to get my company off the ground," Ms Gordon added.
