Ex-trainer faces hare hunt case
RETIRED champion racehorse trainer Peter Easterby is to appear in court next month after being accused of being involved in an alleged hare coursing event.
The former Malton trainer, who retired in 1996, is said to be pleading not guilty and the National Coursing Club stated yesterday he had been taking part in legal field trialling with greyhounds.
Easterby, 78, and two other men will appear before Scarborough magistrates on September 24. The charges relate to an alleged hare coursing event at Easterby's farm at Great Habton, North Yorkshire, in March.
Also charged are John Shaw, 54, of Welburn, near Kirkbymoorside, and Andrew Lund-Watkinson, 56, of Newton-on-Rawcliffe, between York and Pickering.
Traditional hare coursing, using two dogs to chase a live hare, was outlawed by the Hunting Act in 2005.
