Exclusive: Headingley bombarded with cancellation calls

YORKSHIRE County Cricket Club has been inundated with calls from spectators wanting to cancel tickets for next month's one-day international between England and Pakistan following the betting scandal that has rocked cricket.

The club has fielded "numerous enquiries" from people wanting refunds for the match at Headingley Carnegie on September 12 after it was alleged Pakistan deliberately cheated during the final Test against England at Lord's.

The one-day international at Headingley is a 17,500 sell-out, but some who have bought tickets are vowing to stay away. The International Cricket Council, the game's governing body, last night insisted the tour would continue.

Yorkshire stressed it could not give refunds simply because people were unhappy..

"The phones in the club office haven't stopped ringing from people wanting to vent their fury and ask whether they can get refunds on the one-day international," said Stewart Regan, Yorkshire's chief executive. "I've personally fielded several calls and we've had numerous enquiries about cancelling tickets.

"From the club's point of view, we can't give refunds simply because people have got a personal opinion about what's gone on, no matter how much we might agree with them. The club has sold tickets in good faith and, just as we understand the spectators' position, they appear to understand ours."
