Family of four live in car after home repossession

COUNCIL bosses have vowed to urgently review the case of a family who are living in a Vauxhall Vectra after their home was repossessed.

Laura Whitney, 28, her partner Richard Webster, 32, and two children Jessica, seven, and two -year-old Jack having been living in the car for a fortnight.

They were forced out of their home in the Batemoor area of Sheffield after their lender hiked the interest rate on their mortgage to 10.9 per cent.

The couple appealed to the company to allow them to pay an interest only mortgage, but they were refused and faced 553 monthly payments on a 62,500 loan.

Tonight Miss Whitney said they had been also been refused council help unless they were willing to pay 520 a week for temporary accommodation.

She said the council told her the family was ineligible for free help because her husband works full-time for Royal Mail and because they had made themselves homeless.
