Family occasion: Jane Tomlinson's son to start big race
THE remarkable achievements of late Yorkshire fundraiser Jane Tomlinson will be remembered tomorrow when her 10-year-old son starts the second Run for All Leeds 10K road race.
Steven Tomlinson will follow in his mother's footsteps by officially starting the event to send more than 12,000 participants on their way to raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.
His sisters are also due to play key roles on the day – Suzanne, 23, will be among the army of race-day volunteers while 20-year-old Rebecca will be among the thousands hoping to complete the gruelling course.
It promises to be a poignant day for the whole family, coming fewer than 10 months after Mrs Tomlinson lost her seven-year battle with breast cancer. Mrs Tomlinson's widower Mike said: "More than any other occasion we, the family, know that the 2008 Leeds 10k would be the most poignant and emotional occasion since Jane's passing.
"Jane watched all the competitors finish last year and we know that her absence will be felt by all those who saw her.
"It will be a bittersweet day, the high of the stunning legacy mixed with the sadness of her loss."

Celebrities including model and TV presenter Nell McAndrew are expected to take part in the event, and Morrisons president Sir Ken Morrison will be among the official starting party.
A number of roads in Leeds city centre will be closed from 6.30am tomorrow.
Roads south of the Headrow will reopen from 10am and roads to the north will reopen from 11.15am, but some streets surrounding the City Library will remain closed until mid-afternoon or later.
