Fatal crash driver jailed for 10 years
A DRIVER who caused the deaths of three teenage girls during a high-speed race with another car has been jailed for 10 years.
Adam Anguige set off in pursuit of the girls and their driver after they made rude gestures and swore at him when their Ford Fiesta overtook him in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire on September 1 2006.
The 26-year-old and driver James Houston hit speeds of 90mph through a 40mph area in their game of cat and mouse which saw them overtake each other, collding at least three times before the fatal crash.
The last collision came as Anguige overtook a Range Rover and Houston simultaneously overtook his modified Vauxhall Nova, resulting in the cars driving three-abreast.
But Houston's Fiesta struck the side of Anguige's Nova and then span out of control into the path of a lorry in Wakefield Road.
Gemma Cost, 15, Ursula Alokolaro, 16, and Natalie Donlan, also 16, were killed in the crash which left Houston and the lorry driver with serious injuries.
Anguige left the scene, later returning to tell police he had been an innocent witness.
Sentencing Anguige, of White Lee Road, Batley, Judge Christopher Prince accused him of "fast, dangerous, aggressive and competitive driving".
He was found guilty of three counts of causing death by dangerous driving by a jury at Bradford Crown Court in January this year.
Houston, 27, from Huddersfield, was charged with the same offence but deemed not fit to stand trial because he lacked the mental capacity after being injured in the crash. He was held responsible for causing the girls to lose their lives by a jury and will be sentenced in July.
Sentencing Anguige to 10 years for each of the three counts, to run concurrently, and disqualifying him from driving for 10 years, Judge Prince told him: "The loss that is caused to the families is permanent and immeasurable. Your punishment will be temporary and measurable but it will be measurable in years."
