Fight to save your Post Office, customers warned
POST Office customers are being urged to fight for their local branches after details were revealed of 54 threatened Post Offices in North and East Yorkshire, and Keighley.
The plan - subject to six weeks consultation - is to reduce the network of 271 branches across the area, including 23 outreach service points, while 31 existing branches would close.
More than 99.7 per cent of the area's population will either see no change, or will remain within one mile of an alternative branch, the Post Office says.
But Countryside Alliance Regional Director Richard Dodd said: "This is sad news and will come as a shock to all those sub-post masters on the list, but the fight certainly doesn't end here."
Outreach measures could include a mobile service visiting small communities at set times, operating from third party premises for restricted hours each week, or with a partner such as a pub landlord.
Areas affected include York, East Yorkshire, Harrogate and Knaresborough, Keighley, Ryedale, Scarborough and Whitby, Selby, Skipton and Ripon, and the Vale of York.
