Fire rescue for pigs in downpour
The fire service had to be called out to the show after a torrential downpour threatened to engulf the pig lines.
The call came from worried pig owners at two o'clock on Thursday morning after they were unable to deal with the aftermath of a deluge that hit the showground.
At one point it was feared that the pig section might have to be evacuated, although eventually the area was cleared of the excess water.
Exhibitors then had to work hard through the night to make sure their stock were in prime condition before competitions started, although several commented that it was the first time they had been forced to wear Wellingtons, rather than shiny shoes, to show pigs.
Maintaining a supply of white coats for exhibitors also proved a challenge in the slippery conditions with at least one showman ending up flat on his back in the mud.
