First editions are bound to please as library celebrates its revamp
RARE first editions of books by best-selling authors Ian Fleming, Agatha Christie, JK Rowling, and JRR Tolkien are being dusted off to go on show at a Hull library this month to mark its refurbishment.
The books are being loaned to the new-look reference section at Hull Central Library by David Beswick of West Hull Rare Books, who will also invite people to have rare books valued.
Four days of activities to celebrate the 368,000 revamp will begin on Tuesday, July 27, when the library will opened by the Lord Mayor of Hull, Coun David Gemmell, and young entrepreneur Bronwyn Wilson, 15, who set up a business last October after reading a book at the library.
He said: "The reference library looks fantastic. It's modern with comfy seating and browsing areas as well as computers and free internet access. I think it's great that there is somewhere like this for people to come to find information."
Mr Beswick will be valuing books from 9.30am to 1pm on Wednesday, July 28, and 1pm to 5.30pm on Friday, July 30.
Arthur Credland, former curator of the city's Maritime Museum, will give a talk on marine art from 7.30pm on Thursday, July 29.
Plans are also under way to open a new caf Food For Thought.
