Flooding in Yorkshire as rest of Britain swelters
AS BRITAIN basked in glorious sunshine yesterday one small corner of Yorkshire was hit by flooding.
North Yorkshire Fire Service was called out to a flooded property in the Ribblehead area, and also to reports of people trapped in a car caught up in the flood waters.
When officers reached the car everybody had managed to get out safely.
Both incidents happened at about the same time – just before 4pm yesterday – as heavy rainfall hit a tiny geographical area.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire Services said: "It's really very strange indeed. The flooding has not been widespread by any means. There seems to have been just this very small and specific area of Ribblehead affected."
There was also stormy weather in Lancashire and Cumbria with heavy rain during Manchester United's title winning match at Wigan.
Weather forecasters said the current heatwave was expected to last well into the coming week.
