Flu and E.coli scupper Elton John US concerts
AMERICAN fans of Sir Elton John were left disappointed yesterday after the superstar cancelled a further series of concerts after being diagnosed with E.coli and the flu.
A Sheffield Arena date was postponed last week after part of Sir Elton's Red Piano tour was temporarily scrapped. Shows in Newcastle, London, Liverpool and Dublin were also put off.
A spokesman for the 62-year-old singer said tickets for all concerts should be retained, because it was hoped to reschedule all the cancelled events in the near future.
The latest dates to fall victim to Sir Elton's illness are three of his Face 2 Face concerts in which he was due to appear with American singer and musician Billy Joel.
Fans were hoping to see the singer perform on Wednesday and Saturday at the Key Arena, Seattle, and on Tuesday, November 10, at Rose Garden Arena, Portland, Oregon.
Sir Elton's spokesman said yesterday: "He has flu and is absolutely fine."
But doctors have advised him to postpone three concerts which he was due to perform with Billy Joel in the US over the next couple of weeks.
A statement on the singer's official website said: "He is recovering from a case of serious influenza with minor complications. We are confident he will be back on stage in the very near future.
"The Elton John/Billy Joel Face 2 Face concerts originally scheduled for Wednesday November 4, Saturday November 7 and Tuesday November 10 have been postponed.
"Promoter Live Nation, The KeyArena and The Rose Garden were informed by management that Elton has been advised by his doctor to postpone these performances due to a serious case of E.coli bacterial infection and influenza."
It is reported that the veteran performer is being treated at the King Edward VII Hospital in central London.
It is understood that Sir Elton was taken to the hospital, which has treated members of the Royal Family, on Friday after his condition worsened.
