Flu cases down after 338 deaths

A TOTAL of 338 people have died with flu in the UK this winter, but new cases are continuing to fall.

Latest figures reveal the death toll is up on the 254 reported last week although most fatalities were not in the past week.

Most deaths have been linked to swine flu and the majority occurred in people in at-risk groups.

Latest tests, however, reveal swine flu is no longer the dominant strain of the virus.

Numbers of GP consultations in England for flu fell to 40.7 per 100,000 in the last week, down from a peak of 124.4 at the end of December.
