Former mayor admits child porn offences
A FORMER West Yorkshire mayor today pleaded guilty to 22 child porn offences, some involving images of girls as young as three.
Stewart Brown, 60, of Nutclough, Hebden Bridge, pleaded guilty to 21 offences of possessing indecent images of children and one of distributing the depraved pictures.
During the short hearing at Leeds Crown Court, the 60-year-old admitted all the charges read to him by the clerk, some of which were said to relate to images of girls as young as three-years-old.
Brown, who was Mayor of Hebden Royd in 2006, was told to sign the sex offenders register before leaving the court on bail which contained one condition of residence at an unspecified address.
The former Labour councillor on Calderdale Council was told he would be sentenced on August 25 when all sentencing options would be available.
Afterwards, Tim Swift, leader of Calderdale Council's Labour group, said: "It came as a complete shock to us when he was arrested.
"Obviously we were very distressed and are pleased now that he has pleaded guilty. We are concerned and disappointed by it (his conduct)."
